Foundations Support High Desert Chamber Music Educational Outreach Programs !

High Desert Chamber Music is honored to receive foundation support from the Clark Foundation ($2,500) and the Deschutes Cultural Coalition ($1,500) this year. These funds benefit our educational programming, which is provided at no cost to any students, teachers, or schools in Central Oregon. With our three areas of focus, our goal is to allow young children to experience the highest levels of music performance and cultivate an interest that can lead to a lifelong appreciation and enjoyment of the performing arts.

1) Visits to Local Schools
2) Master Class
3) Spotlight Chamber Players

The Clark Foundation is a private foundation that provides grants to qualified non-profit organizations in Oregon.  Established in 1968 by Maurie Clark, the Foundation continues to be directed by members of the Clark family and other civic or charitable minded individuals intent on supporting the community at large.

The Deschutes Cultural Coalition awards grants to arts and cultural organizations in Deschutes County within the culture field including arts, heritage, and humanities.  Grant funding is sponsored by the Oregon Cultural Trust and Deschutes County and supports projects and activities that address one of the four priorities outlined within the Deschutes Cultural Plan.

“We feel incredibly fortunate to receive support that allows us to present the quantity and quality of our educational outreach," said Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “We take pride in offering extensive and unique programs, and we hope to reach every student who has an interest in what we provide."

High Desert Chamber Music’s mission is to bring world-class chamber music and musicians to Central Oregon. As the premier and leading chamber music organization in the region, HDCM offers an exciting roster of professional performing artists.

BUON VIAGGIO!

Central Oregon Mastersingers leaves Tuesday, June 25 for a “once-in-a- lifetime” performance at the Vatican in Rome. The choral group departs by Shuttle Oregon from The Riverhouse Hotel upper parking lot on June 25th at 12:45 p.m. The hotel address is 3075 N Hwy 97, Bend, OR 97703.

The group arrives at Portland International Airport at approximately 4 p.m. and departs at 7:15 p.m. for London, connecting to Naples, Italy, arriving on June 26.

Central Oregon’s premier singing group has been preparing for this opportunity since February. Their eight-day Italy tour incorporates three concerts in Sorrento and Rome, including singing at Mass at the Vatican on June 30.

“Knowing that a performance at St. Peter’s Basilica (The Vatican) would be a mountain-top experience for us, I shared recordings of Central Oregon Mastersingers, which were screened by local officials in Rome, and resulted in our invitation,” said Conductor Christian Clark, explaining the invitation process.

In addition to singing Mass at St. Peter's, the group performs two "friendship concerts" on June 28 at Chiesa della Santissima Annunziata in Sorrento and July 1 with a local Italian choir at Basilica di Sant' Eustachio in Rome.

The program covers music by 15th Century Italian composers in Latin and Italian, as well as several English pieces, including Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by request.

The complete Concert Information is attached. For more details, visit the Mastersingers website at www.centraloregonmastersingers.org.

High Desert Chamber Music Reports Record-Breaking Year!

High Desert Chamber Music (HDCM) is excited to announce that the 2023-24 season was our most successful yet! With a remarkable increase of over 100% in season ticket holders, the award-winning HDCM Concert Series delighted packed houses all season in Central Oregon. This year included the very successful premieres of the Fauré Quartett from Germany and the unique and versatile Sakura Cello Quintet. Our annual Valentine’s Day concert featured the popular Aviara Trio and continues to be a special event draw for our audiences. Another highlight was our first-ever commissioned work by composer Chris Thomas, premiered here in Bend and later in Salem’s Night of A Thousand Lights series. The Crown City String Quartet also recorded this piece at Wille Hall, Central Oregon Community College, for future distribution.

Our Annual Gala eclipsed previous records for both attendance and funds raised, ensuring the continuation of our Educational Outreach programs at no cost to students, teachers, or schools in Central Oregon. HDCM co-presented masterclasses with the Cascade School of Music featuring esteemed musicians Mark Kaplan and David Kaplan. School visits included performances for students of Summit High School, High Desert Middle School, and Caldera High School. Our Spotlight Chamber Players program featured a string quartet and a violin/guitar duo, who will kick off our summer Pop-Up Concerts on Sunday, June 16, at 2:00pm at Looney Bean Coffee (Father’s Day!).

HDCM also received a record number of grants from the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation, James F. & Marion L. Miller Foundation, Starseed Foundation, Oregon Arts Commission, TourWest, Juan Young Trust, Clark Foundation, and the Deschutes Cultural Coalition. These funds support our touring performers, Educational Outreach programs, new work commissions, recordings, and general operations.

"I am thrilled with HDCM's current standing," says Executive Director Isabelle Senger. "Our audience's appreciation, our invaluable business and individual partnerships, robust foundation support, and our dedicated Board, staff, and volunteers have all contributed to our tremendous success. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved and am eagerly looking forward to the future."

Looking ahead, HDCM will launch a new series, the HDCM Celebrity Recitals, debuting in July with a performance by one of America’s foremost violinists, Stefan Jackiw. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the start of High Desert Chamber Music's 17th season on Sunday, July 28, at 4:00pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

High Desert Chamber Music’s mission is to bring world-class chamber music and musicians to Central Oregon. As the premier and leading chamber music organization in the region, HDCM offers an exciting roster of professional performing artists.

Thank You For an Incredible Season!

What an incredible season we've had. We were thrilled to welcome over 10,000 attendees to our main Fall, Winter, and Spring concert series, Chamber Concerts, Music in Public Places performances, Music Masters Series recitals, and our Virginia Riggs Children's Concert. We capped off the season with a fun raffle, and a stunning marimba concerto performed by Britton-René Collins making the finale unforgettable.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. We can't wait to see you next season.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Changes Are Afoot
As many of you know, we have proudly held our performances at Bend Senior High School for many years. However, due to the ongoing construction of the new Bend High and the remodel of the auditorium, we will likely need to find an alternative venue for our concerts for the next four years.
This poses a challenge, as no other local auditorium matches the 1400-seat capacity of Bend High, with most alternatives maxing out at around 600 seats.
Rest assured, we are committed to maintaining our tradition of bringing top-notch performances to Central Oregon, as we have done for over 55 years. Your membership and support are more crucial now than ever as we navigate this transition.
Thank you for being a valued member of our community. Make sure to follow our social media accounts for the latest updates.
