High Desert Chamber Music Auditions for the Spotlight Chamber Players!    High Desert Chamber Music announces auditions for the Spotlight Chamber Players will be held on September 20-21, 2024. This program is devoted exclusively to the study and performance of chamber music skills and techniques and is offered at no cost to the students selected. Auditions are open to violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano students in grades 6-12 with three or more years of private study and intermediate to advanced levels of playing.  Past graduates of the SCP program have gone on to pursue music performance degrees at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, Eastman School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, San Francisco Conservatory, and others.   The recipients of this award will receive weekly chamber group instruction with Isabelle Senger, as well as individual and group instruction with select visiting artists from the HDCM Concert Series. Attendance at all HDCM events is provided complimentary. Throughout the year, there will be compensated performance opportunities in the community. High Desert Chamber Music Opening Concert Features Piano Trio from Denmark!  High Desert Chamber Music opens its 17th season in Central Oregon with the Central Oregon debut of Trio Con Brio Copenhagen. One of the world’s finest piano ensembles, the group is based in Denmark and recognized for their exceptional musicianship, fresh approach, and adventurous programming through highly creative concerts. This concert is brought to you by Miller Lumber, and will take place on Sunday, October 6 at 4:00pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon. Ticket holders may join the members of the group at 3:15pm for a pre-concert talk. This concert preview is free for all ticket holders.   Trio con Brio Copenhagen is a fusion of two overlapping “musical pairs:” two sisters, violinist Soo-Jin Hong and cellist Soo-Kyung Hong, are from South Korea; pianist Jens Elvekjaer, Soo-Kyung’s spouse, is from Denmark. Founded at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in 1999, Trio con Brio Copenhagen’s multifaceted members are not only performing artists who tour extensively, but also esteemed recording artists, artistic directors and educators. CO Symphony Fall Concert Series!  Our 2024-2025 season kicks off with an orchestra showcase concert. Two major works will highlight the broad palate of instruments, techniques and sounds that are possible with the modern symphony. The Romeo and Juliet Suite No. 2, drawn from Sergei Prokofiev’s landmark ballet, is a seven-movement tour of brilliant colors and clever orchestration techniques capturing several moods and characters of the tragic tale. Johannes Brahms’ legendary and storied Symphony No. 1 will conclude the festivities. Saturday, November 2nd | 2 PM Saturday, November 2nd | 7:30 PM Sunday, November 3rd | 2 PM All concerts will take place at the Caldera High School Auditorium. This season holds unexpected changes as we say goodbye to the Bend Senior High School auditorium, our beloved home for decades, after its sudden demolition in July. HDCM Seeking the perfect match!  High Desert Chamber Music Receives Matching Challenge from the Starseed Foundation for the Eighth Consecutive Year High Desert Chamber Music is pleased to announce that it has received a matching challenge from the Starseed Foundation for the eighth consecutive year. The foundation will match the first $5,000 of funds raised during the challenge. The Starseed Foundation seeks to provide opportunities and exposure to the arts and environment, to improve the quality of life for those in need, and to support social programs that offer cultural and lasting benefit to deserving populations. In response to this generous opportunity, HDCM has begun a “Starseed Foundation Matching Funds Campaign”. Every contribution will help meet this matching challenge. “We are very fortunate to receive this annual challenge from the Starseed Foundation, and we have successfully doubled the impact of our donors for the past seven years,” states Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “Your support will allow us to continue presenting the highest level of excellence in our Concert Series and educational outreach programming.”   Donations can be made on their website, by phone, or by mail. Music Healing Hour!  Tuesday, September 10th 7-8pm Grace First Lutheran Church 2265 NW Shevlin Park Rd.  Experience an hour of cello, classical guitar, piano and flute as solo instruments and in combination. You can just absorb the music or bring something creative to work on: a journal, piece of art or handcraft. Yoga mats are welcome, too. An environment of peace and calm will envelope you as you create, move, pray, meditate or simply soak in the music.  With Amy Wheeler on cello, Cass Anawaty on classical guitar, Craig Van Bruggen on flute and Julie Hanney on piano.  With gentle classical and contemporary classical styles, the music will seamlessly flow between instrument combinations.  Free, donations accepted.  More info: juliehanneypiano@gmail.com

Foundations Support High Desert Chamber Music Educational Outreach Programs ! High Desert Chamber Music is honored to receive foundation support from the Clark Foundation ($2,500) and the Deschutes Cultural Coalition ($1,500) this year. These funds benefit our educational programming, which is provided at no cost to any students, teachers, or schools in Central Oregon. With our three areas of focus, our goal is to allow young children to experience the highest levels of music performance and cultivate an interest that can lead to a lifelong appreciation and enjoyment of the performing arts. 1) Visits to Local Schools 2) Master Class 3) Spotlight Chamber Players  The Clark Foundation is a private foundation that provides grants to qualified non-profit organizations in Oregon.  Established in 1968 by Maurie Clark, the Foundation continues to be directed by members of the Clark family and other civic or charitable minded individuals intent on supporting the community at large. The Deschutes Cultural Coalition awards grants to arts and cultural organizations in Deschutes County within the culture field including arts, heritage, and humanities.  Grant funding is sponsored by the Oregon Cultural Trust and Deschutes County and supports projects and activities that address one of the four priorities outlined within the Deschutes Cultural Plan.  “We feel incredibly fortunate to receive support that allows us to present the quantity and quality of our educational outreach," said Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “We take pride in offering extensive and unique programs, and we hope to reach every student who has an interest in what we provide." Sing with Operabend! We are always welcoming new local singers to our chorus and recital roster. Even if you’ve never sung opera before, we welcome singers of varying levels and experience.* We just ask that you come with a positive attitude and willingness to learn! Our next opportunity to participate will take place in the fall (specifics to be announced at a later date). *Please note that the ability to read music is highly preferred, but we do provide ear training resources for part learning.
