A Musical Family
Opens HDCM Concert Series 2024-25 Season!

There are times when two plus two can equal three. Korean sisters Soo-Jin and Soo-Kyung Hong have played together since childhood. After Soo-Kyung married Danish pianist Jens Elvekjaer, the couple played piano and cello duos for years. In 1999, the two pairs came together to form Trio con Brio Copenhagen. Now these family ties, cultures, and musical connections all converge to color, shape, and energize the concerts they present worldwide. Celebrated internationally the trio “occupies a lofty perch in today’s musical scene” (The Washington Post).

High Desert Chamber Music opens its 17th season in Central Oregon on Sunday, October 6 at 4:00pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. This concert is brought to you by Miller Lumber, and features the Trio Con Brio Copenhagen, an international prize-winning group from Denmark. Ticket holders may join the members of the group at 3:15pm for a pre-concert talk.

The program includes Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Ghost” Piano Trio, the group’s own arrangement of Prokofiev’s “Romeo & Juliet Suite”, and Weinberg’s Piano Trio Op.24.

Tickets for all events are available through HDCM online, by phone, or in person at their office in Downtown Bend. Season Ticket subscriptions include a discount and seating in a Reserved section. This offer expires on opening night of the season.

HDCM 2024-2025 title sponsors include Washington Trust Bank and Lynch Murphy McLane LLP, Pahlisch Homes, Miller Lumber, German Master Tech, Pine Tavern Restaurant, Drew Family Dentistry, Mission Building, Cascade A&E, Central Oregon Daily, and Newstalk KBND and 107.7 Radio.

Central Oregon Symphony
Fall Concert Series!

This season holds unexpected changes as we say goodbye to the Bend Senior High School auditorium, our beloved home for decades, after its sudden demolition in July. Though this marks the end of an era, our passion for sharing music with you remains stronger than ever.

With the loss of our traditional venue, we now have a smaller performance space, which means seating is limited for each concert. Tickets will be online this year, and members must reserve tickets for their preferred concert via Eventbrite.

Our Fall concert series takes place on:

Saturday, November 2nd | 2 PM
Saturday, November 2nd | 7:30 PM
Sunday, November 3rd | 2 PM

All concerts will take place at the Caldera High School Auditorium.

There is still time to become a member if you have not done so. Thank you to all current symphony members. We are so excited for this season ahead!

Mastersingers To Sing
Gabriel Faure’s Masterpiece!

Central Oregon Mastersingers will join choirs around the world to pay tribute to French composer Gabriel Fauré (pronounced faw-ray) with a two-concert performance of his beloved Requiem. The October free concerts commemorate the 100th anniversary year of Fauré’s passing on Nov. 4, 1924.

“Fauré’s Requiem is a sublime masterpiece, and one of his most cherished works” said Mastersingers' Artistic Director Christian Clark. "This timeless music not only showcases Fauré's gift for lyrical beauty but also serves as a poignant reflection of his serene approach to life, death, and peace. It's a fitting tribute to a composer whose music continues to inspire."

The concerts will be held Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in St. Helens Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church, 231 NW Idaho Street, and Sunday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran Church, 60850 Brosterhous Road. Admission is free; donations appreciated.

The Dove String Quartet and Stephen Marshall, organist, will join Mastersingers in this intimate presentation of the Requiem.  Performers Samantha Winter and Sterling Roberts will sing solo passages. Winter will sing the famous Pie Jesu, while Roberts will perform passages in Hostias and Libera me.

To open the concert, Mastersingers also will perform two works by Lili Boulanger, a student of Fauré, and the first female winner of the Prix de Rome composition prize. A remarkable talent from a youthful age, Boulanger was a multi-instrumentalist and trailblazing composer who shared her musical brilliance with the world until her untimely death in 1918 at just 24 years old. Diane Thielen, Mastersinger’s collaborative pianist, will accompany the choral group’s performance of Boulanger’s two works.

Gabriel Urbain Fauré, 1845-1924, was a French composer, organist, pianist and teacher. One of the foremost French composers of his generation, Faure’s musical style influenced many 20th-century composers. Among his best-known works are the songs "Après un rêve" and "Clair de lune"

Central Oregon Mastersingers, the area’s premier choral ensemble, will also participate in the Nov. 11 Bend Veterans Day Parade; the Bend Christmas Parade; the annual holiday concert, Festival of Carols, Dec. 14-15 at the Tower Theater; and a free Messiah Sing-Along, Dec. 21-22 in Bend and Sunriver.  The group is recent recipients of the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation and Oregon Arts Commission grants.

Get ready to be blown away by the extraordinary HOLIDAY MAGIC 2024!

Saturday, December 7th @ 7pm (Ticket link)
Sunday, December 8th @ 3pm (Ticket link)
Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall Street, Bend

The Cascade Chorale is the flagship chorus of the Central Oregon community that takes that community to heart in their annual Holiday Magic concert. The Cascade Chorale is renowned for its exceptional vocal performances and dynamic choral and instrumental arrangements. With a repertoire that spans both traditional and contemporary pieces, the Chorale offers a unique and engaging musical experience for all attendees. And this year, the Chorale is tickled to welcome Title Sponsor, Taylor Development to their music family.

For Holiday Magic 2024, the Cascade Chorale is beyond thrilled to announce a sensational event that promises to enchant audiences with a gorgeous blend of cherished classics and fresh new works. Immerse yourself in ear candy from composers like Eric Whitacre and our own James Knox to pieces that riff on classic greats to tickle your funny bone.

In addition to the full-bodied sound of the Cascade Chorale, prepare to be captivated by the musical brilliance of the 27th Street Brass Quintet and the shimmering sweetness of the Dove String Quartet as they join the Chorale for another year end bash. This holiday concert is your opportunity to immerse yourself in the joyous spirit of the season like never before.

The Cascade Chorale Association (“CCA”) is a 501(c)3 organization which provides financial and organizational support to the Cascade Chorale and Jazz Central.  CCA’s mission is to make vocal music accessible to everyone in the Central Oregon community.  COCC provides important support in terms of our director and rehearsal space, but our concerts are an enormous logistical and financial undertaking. In spite of the cost of hiring supporting musicians, renting venues, and undertaking other community projects, in 2012 the CCA stopped charging admission to our concert-goers for the March and May concerts. We now rely solely on donations to fund most of our operations. Your tax deductible donation or sponsorship will help us to continue to bring beautiful choral music to Central Oregon. Please consider giving us your support today. For more information on Sponsorship opportunities and other ways to support the Cascade Chorale, please contact CCA President Marilyn Elliott. The Cascade Chorale Association appreciates your attendance and financial support.

HDCM Seeking the perfect match!

High Desert Chamber Music Receives Matching Challenge from the Starseed Foundation for the Eighth Consecutive Year

High Desert Chamber Music is pleased to announce that it has received a matching challenge from the Starseed Foundation for the eighth consecutive year. The foundation will match the first $5,000 of funds raised during the challenge. The Starseed Foundation seeks to provide opportunities and exposure to the arts and environment, to improve the quality of life for those in need, and to support social programs that offer cultural and lasting benefit to deserving populations.

In response to this generous opportunity, HDCM has begun a “Starseed Foundation Matching Funds Campaign”. Every contribution will help meet this matching challenge. “We are very fortunate to receive this annual challenge from the Starseed Foundation, and we have successfully doubled the impact of our donors for the past seven years,” states Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “Your support will allow us to continue presenting the highest level of excellence in our Concert Series and educational outreach programming.”

Donations can be made on their website, by phone, or by mail. HDCM is a non-profit 501(c)(3) and a qualifying organization for the Oregon Cultural Trust.
