Celebrated Pianist Jeffrey Kahane to Give Lecture and Performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations! Acclaimed pianist Jeffrey Kahane will give a lecture and performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s beloved Goldberg Variations as part of High Desert Chamber Music’s Concert Series in March. Long regarded as one of the most ambitious works for keyboard, the Goldberg Variations demand extraordinary technical mastery and artistic depth—both of which Kahane brings to the stage. This event, sponsored by Mission Building, will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. “Jeffrey Kahane is one of the most distinguished pianists of our time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to present this performance. To my knowledge, this will be the first time the Goldberg Variations are performed live in Central Oregon, and there is no one better suited to bring this masterpiece to life,” says Executive Director Isabelle Senger. Jeffrey Kahane is a pianist, conductor, and scholar whose career spans five decades. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony, collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell, and toured Europe as conductor of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. A faculty member at USC’s Thornton School of Music, he is known for his innovative lecture-performances and collaborations with renowned string quartets. High Desert Chamber Music and Cascade School of Music Offer Free Public Master Class with Celebrated Pianist Jeffrey Kahane!   Renowned pianist Jeffrey Kahane will lead a special Master Class presented by High Desert Chamber Music and the Cascade School of Music next week. This free event will take place on Saturday, March 8, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (61980 Skyline Ranch Rd, Bend, OR 97703) and is free and open to the public. This Master Class is made possible in part by Brooks Resources Corporation.   “Jeffrey Kahane is a highly respected performer and educator in the classical music world. It’s exciting to see interest from both young students and emerging artists eager to learn from him. We’re especially delighted to welcome back students who grew up in Bend and have pursued their musical aspirations beyond Central Oregon,” says High Desert Chamber Music Executive Director Isabelle Senger.   “We are thrilled to be supporting our Central Oregon students during every part of their journey as musicians and we hope all music students join us at the Master Class for what is sure to be a superb learning experience,” adds Cascade School of Music Executive Director Robert Lambeth.   The selected students—Jude Dow-Hygelund, Aiden Koistinen, Ivan Nelson, Aaron Petit, and Gabe Reed—range in age from 14 to adulthood. They study under Andrew Cooperstock, Sharon Mann, and Janet Smith. Former teachers of Bend-based students include Peter Brownlee and Jan Saito. The performers represent Caldera High School, Oregon Family School, the University of Colorado Boulder, and the San Francisco Conservatory. Calling all movie buffs! Free concert on March 16! On Sunday March 16, Bend Pops Orchestra takes you to the movies!  We have a fantastic concert line-up featuring some of the most popular movie theme music in the known universe. We open with a medley of John Williams’ themes from several of George Lucas’ iconic films in Star Wars Through the Years. Next, TV fans can enjoy Downton Abbey, The Suite By John Lunn. On to Danny Elfman’s quirky music from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Rounding out our first half is Disney Film Favorites, with music from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.  We open the second half with music from the first film in Peter Jackson’s epic Lord of the Rings saga — Fellowship of the Ring. Next we’re off to Broadway with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. And you’ll hear more Miranda goodness with music from Disney’s Encanto, We Don’t Talk About Bruno. In addition to all that great orchestra music, the Central Oregon Flute Ensemble will be performing two pieces -- a lovely ballad from the animated film An American Tail called Somewhere Out There, and an amazing composition by Gareth McLearnon which features over 40 movie and TV themes in a mere five minutes -- So Many Themes, So Little Time.  See how many you recognize! In spite of costs that include hiring musicians and renting venues, in 2012, the CCA stopped charging admission to our concert-goers for the March and May concerts. Piano Showcase at the Tower! March 29th's Piano Showcase at the Tower Theatre features acclaimed blues and boogie woogie master Arthur Migliazza. Back for his fourth season with Sunriver Music Festival’s Piano Showcase, Arthur’s award-winning skill has earned him worldwide recognition. Migliazza’s musical virtuosity and fluidity on the keys makes him a crowd favorite. He has been a performer at several of Sunriver Music Festival’s Piano Showcase events featuring multiple pianists, and his solo turn for this 7th annual is greatly anticipated. Arthur has been inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame, and in his 30+ years of performing has played on some of the world’s greatest stages, including Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Birdland Jazz Club in New York City, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, as well as on National Public Radio in the US.  In 2016, Arthur started the world’s first online boogie woogie piano school, School of Boogie, to provide people around the world with access to lessons. He has also authored two textbooks, considered to be benchmarks in blues and boogie woogie piano instruction, entitled “How to Play Boogie Woogie Piano”, and “How to Play New Orleans Piano.” Saturday, March 29th at the Tower Theatre will highlight Migliazza’s multifaceted expertise: At 3:00 p.m., all ages are invited right up onto the Tower stage for the Masterclass & Musical Conversations session. You don’t have to be a pianist to enjoy a masterclass; you just have to enjoy music! A masterclass is a great opportunity to be a “fly on the wall” as an advanced pianist performs and receives spontaneous feedback from our master, Arthur Migliazza. 7:30 p.m. is the concert featuring Arthur Migliazza. This full-length solo performance will include virtuosic boogie woogie piano pieces including some of Migliazza’s brilliant original transcriptions and compositions. SUNRIVER MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2025 LINEUP! From August 2-13, 2025, Sunriver Music Festival presents its 48th season in two spectacular, historic Central Oregon venues—the Tower Theatre in downtown Bend and the Sunriver Resort Great Hall. Performances feature world-class orchestra musicians and renowned soloists, led by Artistic Director & Conductor Brett Mitchell. Programs include four classical concerts, a pops concert, a solo piano concert and a family concert. The Summer Concert Series opens August 2 at the Tower Theatre and closes August 13 at the Sunriver Resort Great Hall. "I'm thrilled to share with you a season of orchestral music that celebrates 150 years of French musical life, composers from Leipzig, Germany, and iconic music related to Vienna, Austria, including Beethoven’s epic 5th Symphony, which was premiered in Vienna in 1808,” said Mitchell. “Other highlights include the appearance of a 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition medalist, a tribute to legendary scores from Broadway and film, and a fun family concert." Many of Anderson's works were premiered by the Boston Pops, and the orchestra will perform a selection of his greatest hits. Calling all movie buffs! Free concert on March 16! On Sunday March 16, Bend Pops Orchestra takes you to the movies!  We have a fantastic concert line-up featuring some of the most popular movie theme music in the known universe. We open with a medley of John Williams’ themes from several of George Lucas’ iconic films in Star Wars Through the Years. Next, TV fans can enjoy Downton Abbey, The Suite By John Lunn. On to Danny Elfman’s quirky music from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Rounding out our first half is Disney Film Favorites, with music from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.  We open the second half with music from the first film in Peter Jackson’s epic Lord of the Rings saga — Fellowship of the Ring. Next we’re off to Broadway with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. And you’ll hear more Miranda goodness with music from Disney’s Encanto, We Don’t Talk About Bruno. In addition to all that great orchestra music, the Central Oregon Flute Ensemble will be performing two pieces -- a lovely ballad from the animated film An American Tail called Somewhere Out There, and an amazing composition by Gareth McLearnon which features over 40 movie and TV themes in a mere five minutes -- So Many Themes, So Little Time.  See how many you recognize! This is a concert that kids will really enjoy, so please bring the whole family!  Admission is free, as always. This event promises a captivating musical experience that celebrates the foundation of classical music and its lasting impact on contemporary artistry. The Cascade Chorale Association (“CCA”) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides financial and organizational support to the Cascade Chorale and Jazz Central.  CCA’s mission is to make vocal music accessible to all in the Central Oregon community.  COCC provides important support in terms of our director and rehearsal space, but our concerts are an enormous logistical and financial undertaking. In spite of costs that include hiring musicians and renting venues, in 2012, the CCA stopped charging admission to our concert-goers for the March and May concerts. Piano Showcase at the Tower! SEEKING: Music Ministry Coordinator for Sunriver Christian Fellowship! Job Description: Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Fellowship's Music Ministry. Serve as a keyboardist during regular Sunday services and for other events and seasonal services. Supervise and direct the choir for Sunday services and for other events and seasonal services. SUNRIVER MUSIC FESTIVAL CALL TO ARTISTS! Sunriver Music Festival invites a Central Oregon artist to create the commemorative 48th season poster. “For over four decades, Sunriver Music Festival has featured some of the most accomplished painters and photographers in the region.
