Celebrated Pianist Jeffrey Kahane to Give Lecture and Performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations!

Acclaimed pianist Jeffrey Kahane will give a lecture and performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s beloved Goldberg Variations as part of High Desert Chamber Music’s Concert Series in March. Long regarded as one of the most ambitious works for keyboard, the Goldberg Variations demand extraordinary technical mastery and artistic depth—both of which Kahane brings to the stage.

This event, sponsored by Mission Building, will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.

“Jeffrey Kahane is one of the most distinguished pianists of our time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to present this performance. To my knowledge, this will be the first time the Goldberg Variations are performed live in Central Oregon, and there is no one better suited to bring this masterpiece to life,” says Executive Director Isabelle Senger.

Jeffrey Kahane is a pianist, conductor, and scholar whose career spans five decades. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony, collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell, and toured Europe as conductor of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. A faculty member at USC’s Thornton School of Music, he is known for his innovative lecture-performances and collaborations with renowned string quartets.

Tickets are available through HDCM online, by phone, or in person at their office in Downtown Bend. HDCM 2024-2025 title sponsors include Washington Trust Bank and Lynch Murphy McLane LLP, Pahlisch Homes, Miller Lumber, German Master Tech, Pine Tavern Restaurant, Drew Family Dentistry, Mission Building, Cascade A&E, Central Oregon Daily, and Newstalk KBND and 107.7 Radio.

High Desert Chamber Music’s mission is to bring exceptional chamber music and musicians to Central Oregon. Now in its seventeenth season, HDCM presents an acclaimed concert series featuring world-renowned artists and meaningful educational opportunities. Join us in experiencing the impact that live musical excellence can bring to our community!

Calling all movie buffs!
Free concert on March 16!

On Sunday March 16, Bend Pops Orchestra takes you to the movies!  We have a fantastic concert line-up featuring some of the most popular movie theme music in the known universe. We open with a medley of John Williams’ themes from several of George Lucas’ iconic films in Star Wars Through the Years. Next, TV fans can enjoy Downton Abbey, The Suite By John Lunn. On to Danny Elfman’s quirky music from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Rounding out our first half is Disney Film Favorites, with music from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast

We open the second half with music from the first film in Peter Jackson’s epic Lord of the Rings saga — Fellowship of the Ring. Next we’re off to Broadway with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. And you’ll hear more Miranda goodness with music from Disney’s EncantoWe Don’t Talk About Bruno.

In addition to all that great orchestra music, the Central Oregon Flute Ensemble will be performing two pieces -- a lovely ballad from the animated film An American Tail called Somewhere Out There, and an amazing composition by Gareth McLearnon which features over 40 movie and TV themes in a mere five minutes -- So Many Themes, So Little Time.  See how many you recognize!

This is a concert that kids will really enjoy, so please bring the whole family!  Admission is free, as always.

The Cascade Chorale proudly invites you to a spellbinding classic journey designed to delight and inspire. Join us on March 15th and 16th as we bring together the legacy of some of history’s most celebrated composers, performed with passion and precision!

The Cascade Chorale (that’s Chorale like “corral” not choral like “coral”) is the flagship chorus of the Central Oregon Community that takes community to heart in their concerts. Experience the magic of Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven, and Schubert as the Cascade Chorale embarks on a classic journey with the Dove String Quartet and Calah McDuffie on harpsichord. This event promises a captivating musical experience that celebrates the foundation of classical music and its lasting impact on contemporary artistry.

This concert is your opportunity to immerse yourself in joyous music that forms the foundations of today’s compositions. Join the experience on Saturday March 15th at 7:00 PM and Sunday March 16 at 4:00 PM at the Bend Nazarene Church, 1270 NE 27th Street. The performance is free to the public with donations gratefully accepted to further the Chorale’s mission to bring great musical experiences to the Central Oregon Community.

The Cascade Chorale Association (“CCA”) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides financial and organizational support to the Cascade Chorale and Jazz Central.  CCA’s mission is to make vocal music accessible to all in the Central Oregon community.  COCC provides important support in terms of our director and rehearsal space, but our concerts are an enormous logistical and financial undertaking. In spite of costs that include hiring musicians and renting venues, in 2012, the CCA stopped charging admission to our concert-goers for the March and May concerts. We now rely solely on donations to fund most of our operations. Your tax deductible donation or sponsorship will help us continue to bring beautiful choral music to Central Oregon. For more information on sponsorships and other ways to support the Cascade Chorale, please contact us at cascadechorale@gmail.com or visit cascadechorale.org. Thank you!

SUNRIVER MUSIC FESTIVAL CALL TO ARTISTS!

Sunriver Music Festival invites a Central Oregon artist to create the commemorative 48th season poster.

“For over four decades, Sunriver Music Festival has featured some of the most accomplished painters and photographers in the region. The collaboration is a beautiful experience for all involved,” shares Executive Director Meagan Iverson.

Sally MacAllister, 2022 selected poster artist agrees: “It was such an honor to be selected as the season’s poster artist. Of course, I was very excited when I first heard the news, but I was overwhelmed when I saw my artwork on the poster and the publicity pieces the Festival designed. And to have my summer filled with the wonderful concerts – such a rewarding experience.”

Here’s your opportunity to join the ranks of esteemed artists by submitting your artwork to Sunriver Music Festival, to be selected by a jury of professional artists from the Artists Gallery Sunriver. Visit sunrivermusic.org/festival-art for submission details, requirements, and benefits.
