Kick Off Summer!

Broadway, Gospel, Spirituals and Folk!

Saturday June 3, 7:30 PM
Sunday, June 4, 3:00 PM
First Presbyterian Church, 230 NE 9th St. Bend
FREE! With donations gratefully accepted

Summer is coming and the Cascade Chorale has a concert for you full of fun, toe-tapping, ear worm inducing music to help kick off your sunny season. To also help celebrate the completion of their first full year of in-person concerts post-pandemic, Director James Knox has pulled together an engaging line up of music that travels from Scotland and Ireland, has roots in the grand literature of Victor Hugo, sails across the pond to the heartland of American folk, gospel and spirituals, and soars through great musical theater and movie themes. You do not want to miss hearing amazing tunes from wonderful musicians from right here in our local community. This concert is free to everyone with donations gratefully accepted to support our programs.

The Cascade Chorale, as the flagship chorus of the Central Oregon community, is dedicated to making choral music accessible to everyone. The funds raised by the annual Holiday Magic concerts in December help ensure that the Chorale’s winter and spring concerts can be offered free of charge and the Chorale itself is made possible by the music department at Central Oregon Community College.  Our members range from experienced choristers who have sung with the Chorale for decades, as well as members that have just recently graduated from high school.  The Cascade Chorale has been under the direction of James Knox since 2004.

Cascade Winds Spring Concert!

The final concert of the Cascade Winds’ 2022-2023 will be held in the Summit High School Auditorium on Sunday, June 4. The concert begins at 2:00PM with doors opening at 1:30PM. There is no admission charge.

The concert program includes a wide range of works, including Jan de Haan’s inspiring Overture to a New Age, Russell Alexander’s rousing march Colossus of Columbia, and Robert Sheldon’s poignant and expressive With Every Sunrise. Rossano Galante’s heroic Lexicon of the Gods depicts three great mythological figures: Perseus, the Greek hero and legendary founder of Mycenae; Penthos, the spirit of grief and lamentation; and lastly, Zeus, who ruled as King of the Gods on Mount Olympus. Finally, we present an expansive masterwork by Philip Sparke, A Colour Symphony. The symphony’s five movements (White, Yellow, Blue, Red, and Green) explore a wide variety of tone colors, instrumental palettes, themes, and harmonies, and includes an extended set of instrumentation with the addition of cellos, harp, and piano.

We hope that you’ll join us!

About the Cascade Winds

Directed by Michael Gesme, the Cascade Winds concert band performs a wide variety of repertoire that often spans centuries and represents diverse musical styles.

Our performances are free and open to all listeners. However, we still have production costs associated with our concerts. As a result we rely on individual and corporate donations as well as fees from the musicians themselves to support our operations. We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and all donations go towards our direct operating expenses. No funding goes toward administration of the band which is fully supported by volunteers from within the group and the Central Oregon community.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated and your support will help further the presence of music in Central Oregon. You can learn about supporting the band on our donation page.
