Central Oregon Flute Ensemble | Music in Public Places! You’re invited to the Central Oregon Flute Ensemble’s winter concert! We have a wonderful variety of festive flute choir* music in store for you, presented in the beautiful new Redmond branch of the Deschutes Public Library. We hope you’ll join us!   * A flute choir is an instrumental ensemble comprising the different members of the flute family. Just as parts in a vocal choir (soprano, alto, etc.) have different vocal ranges and qualities, flute family instruments have varying musical ranges and sound qualities. Most prevalent is the familiar “concert” or C flute you know and love from bands and orchestras. To this is added the rich, warm, and resonant sounds of the “low flutes” – the alto and bass. Occasionally the piccolo adds a bright, soaring melody or a lovely descant above the melodic line. All this gives flute choir music rich, complex musical interest we know you will enjoy!

27th St. Brass | Music in Public Places!   Join us at the Sunriver Public Library for an uplifting afternoon of brass with the 27th Street Brass! This lively ensemble will fill the library’s meeting room with bold, bright sounds — sure to delight all ages. The concert is free and open to the public, so bring friends and family for an inspiring performance in our cozy community space. Messiah Community Sing-along!   We will sing Part 1 of Messiah (the “Christmas” portion) and, of course, the Hallelujah Chorus. Members of Mastersingers will perform the solo movements, and you are invited to join the chorus for the rest! WHEN & WHERE Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 3:00 PM Nativity Lutheran Church 60850 Brosterhous Rd, Bend Admission: FREE and open to the public; suggested donation: $20. Scores: A limited number of loaner scores will be available, but please bring your own if you have one. You can also download a PDF version of the score HERE. Seating: Doors open 30 minutes prior. CHRISTMAS AT NATIVITY!   On Sunday, December 21, at 2:30pm, a special Christmas concert will be presented by the combined choirs of Nativity Lutheran Church and Bend Church, plus members of the Central Oregon Mastersingers. Directed by Clyde Thompson, the combined roster of 46 singers and musicians will perform a wide variety of selections to celebrate the season, from a work by the early 17th Century composer Claudio Monteverdi all the way to an American folk carol, with many stops in between. As a finale, the audience will be invited to join in singing favorite carols. The concert will take place at Nativity Lutheran Church, 60850 Brosterhous Road, Bend, 97702. Admission is free; donations will be accepted and will go toward supporting the music ministries of Nativity Lutheran Church and Bend Church. BARRON RYAN January 25, 2026! Growing up in a home filled with the sounds of artists ranging from Chopin to Michael Jackson, Barron Ryan is not content to draw upon just one influence. He combines them all in a wonderful musical adventure that’s vintage yet fresh, historical yet hip, classic yet cool. After winning the Oklahoma Israel Exchange Young Artist competition in 2011, he found his artistic voice on the Israel concert tour. In his debut album, Classical with Attitude, he explores the exuberance of jazz and ragtime. On his latest album, The Masters’ Apprentice, he pays homage to the piano greats who inspired him. Central Oregon Symphony’s Winter Concert Series- Featuring Our Young Artist Winners!   This concert series features Young Artist Competition winners Aaron Ma (violin), Avery Armstrong (piano), and William Yeh (violin), each performing virtuosic selections: Aaron Ma performs the third movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor; Avery Armstrong performs the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3; and William Yeh performs a selection from Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. The Central Oregon Symphony is thrilled to announce our Winter Concert Series—a perfect way to warm up the season with inspiring performances, including this year’s Young Artist Competition winners. This series is especially meaningful as it marks Maestro Michael Gesme’s final winter at the podium. Winter Concert Series This concert will feature our young artist competition winners, as well as offering a vibrant blend of musical voices across time and geography. Yasushi Akutagawa’s Finale from Music for Symphony Orchestra bursts with rhythmic energy and bold orchestration, reflecting the mid-20th-century fusion of Western and Japanese influences. Claude Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, a hallmark of musical Impressionism, evokes a dreamlike atmosphere with its sensual harmonies and fluid textures. Beethoven’s Lenore Overture No. 3 showcases his dramatic intensity and storytelling prowess, capturing the emotional core of his only opera, Fidelio. Closing the concert is Arturo Márquez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo, an irresistible celebration of rhythm and Latin American spirit. This JR version is a stage adaptation of the 2001 animated film Shrek, based on William Steig’s 1990 book. With music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, the musical follows the story of Shrek, a reclusive ogre who embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona in order to reclaim the deed to his swamp. Along the way, he befriends a talkative Donkey and discovers that Fiona harbors a magical secret of her own. The musical blends humor, heart, and catchy songs to explore themes of self-acceptance, friendship, and love, celebrating the idea that beauty comes in many forms. SUNRIVER MUSIC FESTIVAL CALL TO ARTISTS Sunriver Music Festival invites a Central Oregon artist to create the commemorative 49th season poster. “For over four decades, Sunriver Music Festival has featured some of the most accomplished painters and photographers in the region. The collaboration is a beautiful experience for all involved,” shares Executive Director Meagan Iverson.  Sally MacAllister, a recent poster artist agrees: “It was such an honor to be selected as the season’s artist. Of course, I was very excited when I first heard the news, but I was overwhelmed when I saw my artwork on the poster and the publicity pieces. High Desert Chamber Music Announces 2025-26 Spotlight Chamber Players! HDCM’s Educational Program continues to inspire young musicians High Desert Chamber Music is pleased to announce the students selected for this year’s Spotlight Chamber Players program: Madeleine Bloom (violin), Peyton Cape (cello), Parker Carlson (violin), Ezra Oncken (violin), and Harper Renfroe (piano). HDCM Spotlight Chamber Players and all Educational Outreach programs are sponsored by the Brooks Resources Corporation.    This program provides advanced training and regular chamber music instruction to dedicated young musicians in Central Oregon. Participants work in small ensembles and perform throughout the year at HDCM events and in the community. “We are excited to welcome this talented group of students and look forward to hearing them perform together this season,” states Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “The Spotlight Chamber Players program has become a cornerstone of our educational outreach, helping to develop musicianship, collaboration, and confidence in young performers.” Auditions are held annually, and open to students of stringed instruments or pianists with three or more years of private study and intermediate to advanced levels of playing. This year’s students come from the private teaching studios of Jay Bednorz (Cascade School of Music), Peter Brownlee, Kara Eubanks (Willamette Violin Academy), Lenore Gilbert, and Aria Hartley. The members, aged 11 to 16, attend local schools including High Desert Middle School, Eastmont School, Redmond Proficiency Academy, Cascades Academy, and Summit High School.
