Cascade Chorale Association Invites Lifelong Learners!

On Giving Tuesday, December 1, Central Oregon Mastersingers will send out, via email, their virtual performance of “Like a River in My Soul,” a stunning arrangement of the familiar African American Spiritual, "Peace Like a River," in collaboration with Family Kitchen. The mission of Family Kitchen is to serve anyone who needs a nutritious meal in a safe and caring environment. Together, we seek to nourish both body and soul through food and music.

Look for more information on Tuesday, December 1, which will include a donation link to support Central Oregon Mastersingers and Family Kitchen in one transaction. ANY tax-deductible gift is welcome during this time of additional need for so many. Thank you for considering this project when you plan your Giving Tuesday donations.

High Desert Chamber Music’s Thirteenth Annual Gala Goes Virtual!

High Desert Chamber Music announces their Thirteenth Annual Gala will be going virtual and held on Saturday, December 12, at 7:00pm. This online event will be FREE to attend in the comfort of your own home. Bob Shaw from the KTVZ Newschannel 21 Team returns as this year’s host. If you cannot make the presentation, you can simply replay the recording at your convenience.

There will also be an online auction that will begin on Thursday, December 10th and run through Tuesday, December 15th. More information about how to view the silent auction items and register as a bidder can be found online at HighDesertChamberMusic.com

Support from this evening support HDCM's Educational Outreach programs at no cost to students, families, and schools in Central Oregon.

The presentation will include a special concert featuring Executive Director Isabelle Senger performing alongside John Fawcett and Mateo Garza - two members of our Spotlight Chamber Players alumni. John Fawcett is currently in his third year at the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles, studying with Robert Lipsett. Mateo Garza is in his second year at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, studying with Robin Scott.

Cascade Chorale Association Invites Lifelong Learners!

The Cascade Chorale Association is excited to personally invite all music aficionados to expand your knowledge and appreciation for music by participating in interesting and affordable online learning opportunities through the COCC Music Program.

What better way to deepen your appreciation of music? Here are some of the classes that are available:

MUS 197: CASCADE CHORALE (1 CREDIT, 65+ price = $16.75)
MUS 188: BASIC CONDUCTING (2 CREDIT, 65+ price = $33.50)
MUS 205: JAZZ HISTORY (3 CREDITS, 65+ price = $50.25)
MUS 207: ROCK HISTORY (3 CREDITS, 65+ price = $50.25)
MUS 101: MUSIC FUNDAMENTALS (3 CREDITS, 65+ price = $50.25)

To register, you first need to take a quick quiz, are you under 65 years young or are you 65+ years young?

Anyone who is under 65 years young will register through COCC directly on the website.

Anyone who is 65+ years young will just send an email to Barbara Rich either by responding to this newsletter or to richcraftstudios@gmail.com including

the class(es) you want to sign up for
whether you've signed up for classes at COCC before either as 65+ or otherwise.

Then send your check for $16.75 for each credit you want to take, made out to the Cascade Chorale Association, to PO Box 2243, Bend, OR 97709-2243.

Young Artist Competition!

The Central Oregon Symphony Association is pleased to announce the 2020 Young Artist Competition. First place winner will receive $1250 and second place winner will receive $1000. As with past years, individuals who have not reached their 19th birthday by the submission deadline are eligible to participate.

Due to the evolving pandemic situation, this year’s competition will be held via submitted recordings. Completed application, recording and registration fee must be received no later than December 31st, 2020. FINALISTS FOR NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR!

Sunriver Music Festival, Central Oregon’s classical music experience, is proud to announce two finalists for their new Artistic Director: Maestros Kelly Kuo and Brett Mitchell. The Festival’s current Maestro George Hanson successfully ended his 10 year tenure with the Festival earlier this year after accepting a position in Washington D.C.

“For the last 12 months, the Board and search committee have been reviewing candidates and we are excited to have two dynamic finalists,“ states Executive Director Meagan Iverson.

Both conductors will present programs during the Festival’s 44^th upcoming season (Summer 2021). “This way, our members and community receive the unique opportunity to see these two outstanding professionals in action as they lead our talented Festival Orchestra,” shares Iverson.

KELLY KUO, currently Artistic Director of the Oregon Mozart Players, is an Oregon native praised by the Cincinnati Enquirer as “a leader of exceptional musical gifts, who has a clear technique on the podium and an impressive rapport with audiences,” Maestro Kelly Kuo brings a dynamic versatility and nuance to a diverse repertoire, which includes over 90 operas and an expansive symphonic repertoire as well. Recent engagements have included productions with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Seattle Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Indianapolis Opera, and the Janiec Opera Company of the Brevard Music Center and concerts with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Lexington Philharmonic, and Ballet Fantastique.

In 2008, Maestro Kuo became the first conductor of Asian descent to lead a performance at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, making his company debut with Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. Kuo continues to concertize as the only pianist to have studied with two pupils of Russian virtuoso Vladimir Horowitz.

BRETT MITCHELL, currently Music Director of the Colorado Symphony since 2017, has been hailed for presenting engaging, in-depth explorations of a variety of classical programs. Throughout his Colorado tenure, he has led the orchestra in the majority of its classical performances, as well as a wide variety of special programs featuring such guest artists as Renée Fleming, Yo-Yo Ma, and Itzhak Perlman.

From 2013 to 2017, Maestro Mitchell served on the conducting staff of the Cleveland Orchestra. From 2007 to 2011, Mitchell led over a hundred performances as Assistant Conductor of the Houston Symphony.

Mr. Mitchell is also in demand as a guest conductor. His 2020-21 season features return engagements with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and Houston Symphony, as well as debuts with the North Carolina, Fort Worth, and Pasadena symphonies. Other recent guest engagements include the Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Oregon, San Antonio, San Francisco, and Vancouver symphonies, and a two-week tour with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Sunriver Christian Fellowship: Keyboardist Needed!
Sunriver Christian Fellowship is looking to hire an experienced keyboardist who can play for weekly and seasonal worship services, and to accompany the adult choir. Two keyboards are at the church site – 9’ Steinway Concert Grand and a Yamaha, Clavinova (CVP-505), Electronic Keyboard.

The church meets in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Sunriver on Cottonwood Road across from the Marketplace Store/Shell Gas Station.
