High Desert Chamber Music Announces Recipients of the Spotlight Chamber Players program! High Desert Chamber Music announces the following students were selected for this year’s Spotlight Chamber Players program: Nicholas Oncken (violin), Ezra Oncken (violin), and Matthias Santucci (piano). This program provides a high level of regular chamber music instruction to aspiring young musicians. “After a one-year hiatus, I am excited to get back to work with our region’s talented young musicians,” states Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “You can plan to hear the group featured at events later this season.” Auditions are held annually, and open to violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano students with three or more years of private study and intermediate to advanced levels of playing. This year’s students come from the private teaching studios of Kara Eubanks and Janet Smith. SWING INTO VALENTINE’S WITH A BIG BAND! Yes, after a Covid break, title sponsor Sunriver Resort and Sunriver Music Festival are excited to announce the return of the Annual VALENTINE’S DINNER & DANCE CONCERT, Monday, February 14, 2022 at Sunriver Resort’s historic Great Hall. The evening begins with a hosted happy hour at 5:00 pm, followed by a multi-course plated dinner and full concert.   Blue Skies is a 17-piece big band based in Eugene Oregon and keeping alive the great tradition of big band swing music of the 1920’s - 1940’s. They play many of the original arrangements of classic swing era tunes from such band leaders as Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman and Glenn Miller.   Fronting the band will be the tight vocal harmonies of the Jewel Tones with a sound reflecting the great trios of the '30s and '40s, from the Boswell Sisters to the Andrews Sisters.   "A treasured tradition! Tom Grant Piano – live! Join this exclusive event in-person at Unity Community of Central Oregon OR watch the Livestream from anywhere in the world! December 18th, 8:00 PM, $25 Onsite or $20 Online Tom Grant was born in Portland, Oregon, to a musical family. His father was a tap dancer who owned a record store in Portland, and his brother was an avant-garde jazz pianist. Grant learned to play piano and drums when he was young. After graduating from the University of Oregon, he traveled to New York City in 1970 with Native American saxophonist Jim Pepper. This led to Grant touring and recording with jazz greats Woody Shaw, Charles Lloyd, and Tony Williams. Grant cut his first solo record for Timeless in 1976, and in 1979 he formed his own band. Beginning in 1983, Grant started recording a series of jazz-influenced pop albums that have variously been called “New Adult Contemporary”, “Quiet Storm”, “Contemporary Jazz” and “Smooth Jazz”; each have been best-sellers in the lite jazz market. Grant has been featured on CNN and has been a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. And he has composed music for TV and radio. Little Women the Musical Opens Tonight! Presented by Musical Impressions Studios Based on the classic novel by the same name, Little Women the Musical centers around an aspiring author, Jo March, and her family, growing up in the 1860s in Concord, Massachusetts. The story follows them through the growing pains of marriage, love, loss, and sisterhood and Jo trying to make her way in the world as a writer in New York City. This production will explore the fluidity and androgyny of Jo's character, as she strives to stay true to herself while being told marriage and children are the only path forward in life. High Desert Chamber Music Presents “Music & Friends” Summer Soirées! AVIARA TRIO High Desert Chamber Music is returning to the origins of chamber music! We are putting a spin on our popular “Music & Friends” events and will be presenting a series of small outdoor concerts at private residences around town this summer. These intimate, interactive performances will be held outdoors in beautiful Central Oregon settings. As is customary, our “Music & Friends” events include a one set performance (no intermission), light hors d’oeuvres, and wine. Our first events will take place at locations in Broken Top, Sunrise Village, and North Rim between July 14-July 16, and feature a return of the popular AVIARA TRIO. This exciting ensemble has made an indelible impression on the musical landscape of Southern California for the past decade several appearances in the HDCM Concert Series. Members of the trio have been Grand Prize Winners in the Coleman National Chamber Music Competition, Finalists in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and Concert Artist’s Guild Auditions, winners of the D’angelo International Piano Competition, and the La Jolla Young Artists Competition. As a small non-profit, all proceeds will support our recovery from the economic hardship of COVID, enable us to bring high quality chamber music to Bend, and support our efforts to provide Educational Outreach programming at no cost to local students, teachers or schools in Central Oregon. OPERABEND HAS BEEN BUSY!!! Release date: July 8th! For the last 5 months, OperaBend has endeavored to produce a virtual opera performance, by employing artists and collaborating with local arts organizations like Dance Arts Unlimited in Madras.  During the pandemic, the arts have been tough, if not impossible, to produce.  OperaBend has created a unique virtual opera performance featuring NW Regional Singers, original artwork and dancing using pandemic-safe protocols. 44th Sunriver Music Festival! Do you have tickets? That is the big question for music-loving residents as excitement hits a fever pitch for the return of Sunriver Music Festival's live concert series this month (August 14-23).   "We just can't wait. We've missed the whole experience," explains long-time attendee Pam Klampe. "My husband Pat and I always help provide snacks for orchestra rehearsals, and we are so excited to welcome back the musicians and listen to their glorious music again." While they will miss long-time Maestro George Hansen, like everyone we interviewed, they are thrilled to have the opportunity to see and hear Artistic Director finalists Kelly Kuo and Brett Mitchell conduct two classical concerts each with the full Festival Orchestra plus share the stage in a special Pops Concert.  "A live preview of two outstanding maestros is such a unique treat," adds Bert Neumaier. "I am a fan of Jeopardy, and like the TV show trying out different guest hosts, what a thrill for everyone to see these two talented maestros in action." Bert adds that he and his wife moved here six years ago and were blown away when they attended their first concert. "We have enjoyed everything we've attend. We're talking international quality, it's glorious. The last couple of years we have invited friends, family, and grandkids to the concerts. We are overjoyed to be able to do that again."
