HDCM Seventeenth Annual Gala!




Features Three New Student Ensembles!

High Desert Chamber Music’s Seventeenth Annual Gala will feature three new student ensembles – a string quartet, violin duo, and guitar/cello duo. This annual event includes a Cocktail Hour & Silent Auction, Dinner, and Dessert Dash and will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Friday, December 6, at 6:00pm. Central Oregon Daily anchor Genevieve Reaume returns as this year’s Master of Ceremonies.
 
 “Last year’s event was a record year and we work hard each season to build on our success,” states Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “We have three new groups in our Spotlight Chamber Players program and are excited to feature them that evening. As always, support from this important event allows HDCM to continue offering all our Educational Outreach programs at no cost to students, teachers, or schools in Central Oregon.”

High Desert Chamber Music’s Educational Outreach includes performances and Q&A sessions at local schools, public master classes, and the Spotlight Chamber Players chamber music training program. This year’s members, aged 13 to 17, attend local schools including Cascade Middle School, Cascades Academy, Bend Senior High School, Caldera High School, and Summit High School.

Concert Rock Violinist Aaron Meyer and band to perform

Violinist Aaron Meyer’s “Concert Rock” style of performance blends his classical training with a passion for rock music. Inspired by a fusion of classical and rock, Aaron’s music features arrangements from Vivaldi to Led Zeppelin; Aerosmith to Wieniawski; and Mozart to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

A student of the violin since age 5, Meyer debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra by age 11. He later soloed with the Oregon Symphony, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra in Thailand and many other symphony orchestras. Over the last two decades, Aaron has released 11 albums and is in constant demand on stage. Aaron plays a Benjamin Ruth acoustic violin and a John Jordan 6 string electric violin, with a custom-built pedal board.

A Central Oregon fan favorite, Sunriver Music Festival has been presenting Concert Rock Violinist Aaron Meyer and band in concert since the mid 1990s. In collaboration with the Tower Theatre Foundation, the December 7 concert will be a winter-friendly matinee in Benham Hall at Sunriver’s SHARC. The Redmond Community Choir presents its “Sounds of the Season” holiday concert at 4 PM on Sunday, December 15th in the Redmond High School auditorium.  The concert will include a variety of musical styles ranging from the Baroque period to contemporary classics. The concert is free to the public (donations are appreciated). Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. The Redmond Community Choir is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is a highlighted COCC Community Education program.

Also included are Ancient Echoes of Time, an imaginative musical landscape by Douglas Wagner; four of Duke Ellington’s best in a brilliant arrangement by Calvin Custer; the slow and mysterious unfolding of Beethoven’s masterpiece, the Second Movement of Symphony No.7; and Gravitas, a powerful work celebrating strength, beauty, and life’s journey by the internationally acclaimed Soon Hee Newbold.  In addition to two small ensembles, Bells of Sunriver will make a special guest appearance to literally Ring in the Season!

Sunriver Music Festival's Production Coordinator is a vital member of the Festival's small-and-mighty staff helping plan and produce all events.  The ideal candidate enjoys being part of a community, is organized and proficient in an office setting, and excited to be involved with creating world-class musical experiences. This key team member assists the Executive Director in daily operations of the year-round nonprofit organization and in coordinating all logistics associated with producing concerts and events. This position is ideal for someone seeking part-time and flexible hours as we're happy to be flexible within individual schedules whenever possible.

“For over four decades, Sunriver Music Festival has featured some of the most accomplished painters and photographers in the region. The collaboration is a beautiful experience for all involved,” shares Executive Director Meagan Iverson.

Sally MacAllister, 2022 selected poster artist agrees: “It was such an honor to be selected as the season’s poster artist. Of course, I was very excited when I first heard the news, but I was overwhelmed when I saw my artwork on the poster and the publicity pieces the Festival designed. And to have my summer filled with the wonderful concerts – such a rewarding experience.”

HDCM Concert Series Continues

Plus San Francisco-based Telegraph Quartet To Perform For Students at Bear Creek Elementary
!

The HDCM Concert Series presents the Central Oregon debut of the Telegraph Quartet on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 pm. Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as “an incredibly valuable addition to the cultural landscape” and “powerfully adept…with a combination of brilliance and subtlety,” the Telegraph Quartet is based in San Francisco and is on the chamber music faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

This concert, sponsored by the Pine Tavern, will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon. Ticket holders are invited to join the group members at 6:45 pm for a pre-concert talk, free for all ticket holders. Limited tickets are available, and advance purchase is recommended.

While in Bend, the Telegraph Quartet will perform for all second through fifth graders at Bear Creek Elementary. This outreach event is made possible by HDCM Educational Outreach Sponsor Brooks Resources and is presented in partnership with the Cascade School of Music.

“Encouraging a lifelong engagement with music is key to our nonprofit's mission, and CSM is proud to partner with HDCM to bring the amazing Telegraph Quartet to the children at Bear Creek Elementary,” says Cascade School of Music Executive Director Robert Lambeth.

Our upcoming event spotlights the violin and viola, with renowned violinist Casey Bozell and violist Darian Todd offering both a masterclass and a recital.

Local composer and pianist Julie Hanney has recently released her fifth solo piano album, titled Wonderment. You are invited to experience her original neoclassical compositions alongside Thanksgiving-themed songs, enhanced by the contributions of her friends. Come experience an hour of peaceful music with a spirit of gratitude and wonderment. CDs will be available for purchase.

Julie is a published composer and recording artist who received her musical education at the University of Oregon. Her diverse career encompasses roles such as choral composer, Kindermusik instructor, Gospel Choir Director and piano teacher. She is currently the Music Director at Grace First Lutheran Church and teaches piano privately. Her compositions and arrangements have gained international recognition, being featured on platforms such as Sirius XM, Whisperings Solo Piano Radio and various international airlines, in addition to numerous radio stations and streaming services. Her last three albums were released by Heart Dance Records.

This evening promises to be a celebration of the musical genius that has enchanted audiences for generations.

High Desert Melodies

In February 2025, OperaBend proudly presents “High Desert Melodies,” a concert showcasing the talents of some outstanding young opera singers. This event will offer a platform for emerging artists to shine, bringing their exceptional voices and artistry to the stage. It will be an inspiring evening of operatic favorites and hidden gems, highlighting the future stars of the opera world.

Reverie: A Celebration of Live Music and Dance

April 2025 brings a unique event that combines the magic of live music and dance. In collaboration with Ping & Woof Opera from Portland and Pathways Dance Company, OperaBend presents “Reverie”, blending the elegance of dance with the enchanting sounds of live music. This celebration will be a feast for the senses, offering a mesmerizing experience that reflects the rich cultural tapestry of the arts.

The Barber of Seville

Our season concludes with a grand production of Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville”, in June, 2025. Sung in Italian and accompanied by a full orchestra and chorus, this masterpiece will be brought to life with all the vibrancy and humor that have made it a favorite among opera lovers. The performances promise to be an unforgettable finale to a spectacular season, showcasing the brilliant vocal talents and theatrical flair of OperaBend’s cast and crew.

Violinist Aaron Meyer’s “Concert Rock” style of performance blends his classical training with a passion for rock music. Inspired by a fusion of classical and rock, Aaron’s music features arrangements from Vivaldi to Led Zeppelin; Aerosmith to Wieniawski; and Mozart to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

A student of the violin since age 5, Meyer debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra by age 11. He later soloed with the Oregon Symphony, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra in Thailand and many other symphony orchestras. Over the last two decades, Aaron has released 11 albums and is in constant demand on stage. Aaron plays a Benjamin Ruth acoustic violin and a John Jordan 6 string electric violin, with a custom-built pedal board.

A Central Oregon fan favorite, Sunriver Music Festival has been presenting Concert Rock Violinist Aaron Meyer and band in concert since the mid 1990s. In collaboration with the Tower Theatre Foundation, the December 7 concert will be a winter-friendly matinee in Benham Hall at Sunriver’s SHARC. Come celebrate the season with festive and heart-warming music we’ve selected for you at Holiday at the Pops!  We will present some of the season’s favorites from the Christmas adventure, The Polar Express; four holiday tunes arranged by Jack Bullock; Leroy Anderson’s iconic Sleigh Ride; and those loveable Peanuts characters in A Charlie Brown Christmas! Also included are Ancient Echoes of Time, an imaginative musical landscape by Douglas Wagner; four of Duke Ellington’s best in a brilliant arrangement by Calvin Custer; the slow and mysterious unfolding of Beethoven’s masterpiece, the Second Movement of Symphony No.7; and Gravitas, a powerful work celebrating strength, beauty, and life’s journey by the internationally acclaimed Soon Hee Newbold.  In addition to two small ensembles, Bells of Sunriver will make a special guest appearance to literally Ring in the Season!

Sunriver Music Festival's Production Coordinator is a vital member of the Festival's small-and-mighty staff helping plan and produce all events.  The ideal candidate enjoys being part of a community, is organized and proficient in an office setting, and excited to be involved with creating world-class musical experiences. This key team member assists the Executive Director in daily operations of the year-round nonprofit organization and in coordinating all logistics associated with producing concerts and events. This position is ideal for someone seeking part-time and flexible hours as we're happy to be flexible within individual schedules whenever possible.

Sunriver Music Festival invites a Central Oregon artist to create the commemorative 48th season poster.

“For over four decades, Sunriver Music Festival has featured some of the most accomplished painters and photographers in the region. The collaboration is a beautiful experience for all involved,” shares Executive Director Meagan Iverson.

Sally MacAllister, 2022 selected poster artist agrees: “It was such an honor to be selected as the season’s poster artist. Of course, I was very excited when I first heard the news, but I was overwhelmed when I saw my artwork on the poster and the publicity pieces the Festival designed. And to have my summer filled with the wonderful concerts – such a rewarding experience.”
